Support research to help patients with epilepsy live seizure free.

Donate to Epilepsy Research and Care

Epilepsy can develop in any person at any age, and about half of epilepsy diagnoses have no known cause. Those with epilepsy may feel apprehensive, or even trapped, waiting for their next seizure to occur. In addition to seizures, patients may also struggle with short-term memory loss, confusion, insomnia, dizziness, and migraine. Overtime, these symptoms can take a significant toll on a patient’s mental health and overall quality of life.

The Barrow Epilepsy Center is an internationally recognized leader in the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy, providing patients with access to advanced diagnostic tools and comprehensive, compassionate care. Its multidisciplinary team of specialists includes nine epileptologists, two neurosurgeons, three advanced practice providers, a patient navigation nurse, a social worker, and a surgical program coordinator.

Barrow is also a National Association of Epilepsy Centers-accredited Level 4 Comprehensive Epilepsy Center, the highest designation in the field.

You Advance Life-Changing Epilepsy Research & Care

Out of the 3.4 million Americans living with epilepsy, more than 30% still experience seizures while on medication. The Barrow Epilepsy Surgery Program provides hope to these individuals, significantly improving their quality of life and reducing or eliminating their seizures. The team performs between 50-100 epilepsy surgeries each year, including intracranial EEG procedures, vagus nerve stimulation (VNS), deep brain stimulation (DBS), and responsive neurostimulation (RNS).

Your Support Advances Innovative Technology

Last year, Barrow acquired Arizona’s first magnetoencephalography (MEG) system, a crucial tool for identifying patients who would benefit from surgery and guiding surgical interventions. This imaging technology can measure brain activity down to a millisecond, picking up on signals that electroencephalography (EEG) may miss. This makes the MEG invaluable to epilepsy surgeons, as it allows them to precisely target the areas causing seizures while minimizing risks to critical brain functions.

I had the DBS surgery with Dr. Smith and it completely changed my life. I very rarely have seizures now and can spend time with my husband, play with my children, travel, and do all the things I love without fear or medication side effects.
